COMMUNITY

I have been involved in community activities for a long time, where time is dedicated on a voluntary basis.

It's taken a back seat since having my first child in 2019, Covid and then child #2 in 2021. I'm looking forward to re-establishing this part of my life in 2025.

INSPIRE UNITE CHANGE: Sports Matters Conference 2014

In 2014, I helped the Sports Matters team with their October conference, held in Brisbane Australia. The theme of the conference was Inspire. Unite. Change. Jess worked on some marketing and media for the event, including the design of the conference program, media press release drafting, working on the website and social media.

International exposure visit,
Grameen Bank, Dhaka, Bangladesh - 2013-2014

At the end of 2013, I ventured into hot but pumping Dhaka in Bangladesh, to complete the Grameen Bank's International Exposure Program. This program was a short 6 day visit to the bank's headquarters in Dhaka as well as some remote and regional branch visits outside of the capital, to learn about grass-roots microfinance and how the Grameen Bank operates. On this visit, I was lucky enough to meet Nobel Peace Prize Winner in 2006, and Grameen Bank Founder, Muhammad Yunus.

Event Co-Founder and Director,
Social Good Summit, Singapore - 2013
Other ventures
Australia, Singapore, India, Malawi, Guatemala and Laos

In 2013, I noticed that the awesomeness that was the Social Good Summit was happening in New York. Rather than fly half way across the world for the three day event, I decided to use the open sourced event and bring it to Singapore. Finding three other motivated ladies, we held the first Social Good Summit in Singapore - with over 100 attendees and an awesome speaker line up.

Brought together by our team of volunteers, the Social Good Summit worldwide is about bringing together social enterprises and non-profits with technology, new media companies and social networks, to explore how to tackle some of the world's biggest difficulties.

  • Leading a team of four to direct, produce, market, manage and execute the Social Good Summit, Singapore. (@SocialGoodSG on Twitter and here on Facebook.) This event, held on Sept 22, 2013 @ The Hub, Singapore, started in March 2013 was attended by approximately 100 people, bringing together social enterprise and technologists, to talk about ways the two can change the world.

  • Metrics: This event was my idea and I approached three other contacts to come on board to help get it off the ground. I drove the overall management, coordination, communication and execution of the event. The entire speaker and social enterprise line-up was generated through LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. We had a great speaker line-up (6), sponsorships, partnerships and industry collaborations (8) and over 60 attendee registrations before the event had even been announced.  The event also created a community in Singapore of likeminded people. This community is now 250+ strong.
